Welcome to Maths and Art Network Web
site!
Maths and art are traditionally seen as very separate
subjects. But often the beauty of maths can only be expressed through
art. Here you will find support for running a Maths and Art Club in your
local school. The aim of the club is to provide an alternative to the
number based national curriculum and each week do an activity where you have to
make something and most importantly to have fun.

Background
Maths and Art Network is a sister organisation to
MatheMagic, a non-profit organisation which specialises in maths and
education projects. In October of
this year Maths and art Network and York East Arts put on a maths and art
festival at Tang Hall Community Centre, York. It was a successful day with workshops including African
Drumming, Fitness tests and Origami.
We received a grant from National Lottery Awards for All to run 6 after
school Maths and Art clubs in the York area.
Personal
Background
I facilitated the maths and art clubs, I have a degree in
maths from Glasgow University and have worked for 2 years in a secondary school
as a Learning Support Assistant and a Maths Technician. I am currently working part time as a
Education Care Officer at York College of further and higher education.
Format of the clubs
1 hour session after school for 10 weeks, maximum 15 year 5 and 6 pupils. Each session would be a practical
activity for example making fractal pop-up cards, mathematical origami or a
mathematical magic show.
