Pop up cage

 

Overview

This is a simple to make popup card which comes in two parts.  The cage and the pop-up contents of the cage. You can put anything inside the cage in this example I put my surname Miles.

Instructions

 Fold the piece of A4 paper in half.

Draw an arc on the folded edge no higher than half way up the page, and cut strips vertically upwards from the folded edge until the line reaches the arc you have drawn.  These are the bars of your cage

Fold the bars back so they form a lions mane around the arc.

 Fold the bars back down until they are lying vertical again then open out the paper.

Reverse fold each bar so that they are inverted and pointing into the card this is your cage

 With a piece of A4 card fold it in half then cut 2 small vertical lines in the middle of the card this forms a flap.

Reverse fold the flap in on itself so its stick out in interior of the card. This is your contents  support.

On another piece of card cut out your shape you want to put in the cage, this has to be smaller than the arc you made on the cage.  Stick it onto the contents support.

Glue the cage on top of the card.

Note you may want to remove some of the bars to your cage in order to see the contents more clearly.
