Weaving

Introduction

Weaving combines phsysical dexterity with pattern forming.  In this lesson we use paper weaving and explore the different types of pattern we can make.  The most basic pattern is for the first strip or thread to go over, under, over, under, over etc. and then the next strip to go under over, under, over, under etc.

Examples

Weaving1.GIF (1453 bytes)

To make the weaving opposite cut straight lines from the folded edge of paper as in diagram above.

124-2480_IMG.JPG (591310 bytes)

This is similar to the last one except that the strips go in at an angle.
124-2483_IMG.JPG (562800 bytes)

Weaving2.GIF (1585 bytes)

This one is created by making wavy lines rather than straight lines

Weaving3.GIF (1608 bytes)

This one is made by six cuts at angles shown above.

Extension

Change the pattern of weaving for example instead of going over, under, over, under on the first line and under, over, under, over on the second, try the following patterns (Key: O-Over, U-Under)

1) O U O O U O O U O O U O
    O U U O U U O U U O U U

2) U U O O U U O O U U O O
    U U O O U U O O U U O O
    O O U U O O U U O O U U
    O O U U O O U U O O U U

3) O O O U U U O O O U U U
    U O O O U U U O O O U U
    U U O O O U U U O O O U
    U U U O O O U U U O O O
    O U U U O O O U U U O O
    O O U U U O O O U U U O
